Hey there,

So I just stumbled upon this post and noticed that the download link is dead. I was really excited about the idea of extracting the textures from the PC disk to use them as a base for a fan project/remake of The House of the Dead.

Is there anywhere else I can get this tool? If not, is there any other way I can extract the VMC and RBH files? I Googled it and got mixed or even basic information on these file extensions and mostly a lot of shady looking "file optimizer" sites.

Please let me know, since I am genuinely excited about the idea of getting the game's texture and maybe even sound files for a fan project.
Or is this a really risky idea, since this is Sega's intellectual property and all? If that's the case, I can just do everything by hand, lol

Thanks a bunch!

Leo,

Do you mind making some simple tutorial / lesson-alike about finding 3d geometry and texture related stuff?

Best regards :)

Hey guys, I found another way to extract textures from this game. It's not for PC, but for the arcade ROM. It's pretty easy- all you gotta do is get the Sega Model 2 Emulator and a rom for the arcade version of House of the Dead (I got mine from Emu Paradise, and just keep in mind it's listed as being for MAME, but it definitely works with Sega Model 2)

When you load the rom, select the "Game" tab in the window's toolbar, and click on "Dump Texture Cache" in the drop down menu. The textures PNGs will be found in a TEXCACHE folder in the same directory you installed the emulator.

Only problem it the textures are tiny (which is to be expected since it IS an old game) and in grayscale. This kinda makes it harder to tell what is what, which is why I'm hoping we can still somehow find a way to extract the colored VMC files from the PC version.

Here is a few I compiled together-

The link has been updated thanks to Kirukato(JohnSpider554) for providing me with the tool which I've lost along with the source long time ago...
