You welcome!

Sorry but this tool suppose to work only with first GT archives, to extract GT2 archives you can try GT2Vol made by @mk.

Can't wait to try it out. I wonder if car and track formats from first and second GT are matching. If so - a tool that could pack GT's DATs back would be awesome. As well as the tool that could unpack and pack back GT2.VOL - I do miss Special Stage Route 11 in GT2.

I don't have GT2 right now to check it out but if it's similar file to STREAM.DAT in first GT then it should contain all the videos from the game, and the only thing I can think right now is to use some video ripper like PsxMC just to rip those videos. By the what you trying to do with STREAM.DAT put custom videos?

I wonder if car and track formats from first and second GT are matching.
Most likely they're using different structure, at least I'm sure about the car's cause I looked at decompressed GT2 car and couldn't see anything similar to GT car's. Don't know about the tracks haven't check that out yet.  Making similar tools for GT2 as I did for GT wont be more difficult than it was with GT tools cause I have some experience from the first game.

I see, if GT2 use some sort of standard psx .STR videos you could use avi2str to convert your .AVI to .STR but still then you'll have to find a way to put that .STR back to STREAM.DAT.

Strange, considering that cars in both GTs look exactly the same ingame...
I'll have my look at it anyway.

To the moment I've realised that this tool works when you drop the DAT on its executable file I have alredy got European DATs, but forgot about Japanese ones.
Strangely, the tool either crashed or unpacked tons of other DATs (which - big surprise - made the tool crash).

I don't get it. Are all the extracted files have to be DATs as well? What can I do with them?

Hello Leo2236!
Many thanks for your useful tools, I tried to extract the COURSE.DAT package and your Unpacker did the work perfectly!
But now I wonder, how to handle the other smaller .DAT files that have been extracted?

Cheers!

Is there a way to repack the files? Considering GT2VolTools could repack the GT2.VOL file, this tool should also be possible to repack the files.

Also, the cars and tracks have filenames as well in GT1. I've getting meaningless numbers when extracting CAR.DAT, which can be difficult when porting cars between versions. See this list for final version car filenames: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/xenns-cheat-device-codes-includes-demo-codes.187354/page-25#post-11356256
